A 17-year-old Chinese player named Chang Chi-Jie died today, Monday, after collapsing on the court during an Asian championship in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Badminton Association, Chang Chi-Jie was facing Japanese player Kazuma Kawano in the Asian Junior Badminton Championships yesterday, Sunday, when he suddenly fainted and suffered seizures.

A video shared on social media captured the moment the player collapsed before his death was announced after being transferred to the hospital. Badminton officials stated that medical teams attended to Chang on the court and he was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, later being moved to Sargijito General Hospital, a major government facility in Yogyakarta.

The spokesperson for the Indonesian Badminton Association, Proto Habi, told reporters that "the results of the examination and treatment of the victim in both hospitals showed the same results, indicating that he suffered a sudden heart attack." The Chinese Badminton Association expressed its condolences and support to Chang's family, describing him as a player "who loved badminton and was an outstanding athlete on the national youth badminton team."
