Leader of the Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt, along with his accompanying delegation, met with the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Jumblatt spoke before members of the Lebanese community, expressing gratitude for Kuwait's support for Lebanon in various circumstances and for hosting Lebanese people. He stated, "I came on a day that plays a role in history, March 14. Sometimes ambitions are high, but then collide with what is called international axes. However, we can agree that on March 14, contrary to the expectations of ambassadors, the majority of the Lebanese people came together and said enough to the hegemony of the Syrian regime."
He continued, "It is true that there was a group of Lebanese on the other side, but they are from our own kin, each has their opinion. And the day after will be the anniversary of the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt; it was a significant day, but marked by blood, the blood of Kamal Jumblatt and the innocents in the mountain who did nothing wrong."
He added, "I am visiting Kuwait amid a great earthquake in the region, a masterstroke, if you will, by His Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Gulf, attempting to ease relations and open new horizons between the Arab people and the Iranian people, among the sects, opening the door for calm instead of wars. Enough wars in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, enough. Therefore, this step is very important."
Regarding the timing of the outcomes of this rapprochement reaching Lebanon, he emphasized that "we need to be humble. There is an agenda, reforms in sectors such as electricity and banking, among others; a long agenda is required from us. The regional breakthrough may come, and we must start with the necessity of electing a president for the republic, and it cannot be a president who is a challenge to any team, but a consensus president, not just for the sake of agreement but for reform."
