Dr. Pavel Isinbaev, a weight loss specialist, revealed the benefits of red and yellow watermelon (melon) and the vitamins present in each. The specialist states: "Although both products are almost entirely made up of water and have low calorie levels, their health effects differ due to the variations in their composition. For example, the protein concentration in yellow watermelon is almost double that in red watermelon." According to him, red watermelon has a higher content of soluble dietary fiber, which acts as a prebiotic to improve digestive health, and is rich in vitamins A, B1, and B5. Red watermelon also contains zinc and phosphorus, and some sodium, making it better for men and for those with high blood pressure.
On the other hand, yellow watermelon is rich in vitamins C, B6, and K, and its mineral composition is richer than that of red watermelon, containing iron, calcium, potassium, and copper. Therefore, yellow watermelon may be beneficial for those suffering from osteoporosis and iron deficiency. He adds: "The effect of both products is positive on the heart and blood pressure: yellow watermelon due to its potassium and fiber content, which reduces overall cholesterol, and red watermelon due to its antioxidant lycopene that lowers 'bad' cholesterol."
