Faris Al-Jouari, a researcher and aviation specialist, commented on the Iraqi Interior Ministry's assumption of responsibility for securing Baghdad International Airport, explaining that it must adopt certain necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft.
Al-Jouari stated to "Baghdad Today" that "terminating the contract with the Canadian security company (Business Intel) in relation to the security of Baghdad International Airport and transferring the file to the Interior Ministry is a good and important step, especially since neither this company nor its predecessor fulfilled their duties properly."
He added that "the return of the security file of Baghdad International Airport to the Interior Ministry is the correct procedure; however, the ministry needs to rely on aviation and airport security specialists to organize their work. It is important to note that the foreign security companies at Baghdad Airport employed Iraqi staff, who managed the entire security operation."
Furthermore, he emphasized that "the procedures regarding passenger and aircraft safety should be under their supervision," indicating that "the annual security plan involves several security agencies including intelligence and national security, among others."
The aviation specialist stressed that "people selected for airport protection tasks should be properly chosen, with supervisors appointed by specialists in aviation and airport security, under a new structure involving the Civil Aviation Authority to aid in training the Interior Ministry's personnel, ensuring they do not fail in securing Baghdad International Airport after taking over."
Earlier, a knowledgeable source revealed that the Interior Ministry has taken over the security of Baghdad International Airport, which was previously under the management of the Canadian company Business Intel.
