Title: Death of Ashton Carter: Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Who Led the Fight Against ISIS

Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, who led the Pentagon during the peak of the U.S.-led war against the ISIS terrorist organization, has passed away, as reported by American media on Tuesday. CNN stated that Ashton Carter died at the age of 68, according to a statement from his family. They added that the former secretary suffered from a "sudden heart event" on Monday evening in Boston, Massachusetts. Carter died while serving as a public policy professor and director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University's Kennedy School. He held the position of Secretary of Defense in President Barack Obama's administration from February 2015 to January 2017, a period marked by the peak of the fight against ISIS, which had seized large areas of Syria and Iraq. During this war, Carter oversaw the leadership of the international coalition comprising dozens of countries and visited several countries in the region, focusing heavily on Iraq, where he continued to work until the beginning of the liberation of Mosul from ISIS control. Carter was the 25th Secretary of Defense in U.S. history.
