An important spiritual and political summit took place in Bkerke yesterday, where Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin met with Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, Sheikh Samy Abou Al-Muna, the Druze Spiritual Leader, and Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, along with several spiritual and political leaders, including Gebran Bassil, head of the Free Patriotic Movement, and Sleiman Frangieh, head of the Marada Movement. In the absence of Samir Geagea, head of the Lebanese Forces, MP Pierre Abu Assi attended as his representative.
In form, the meeting is significant and represents a necessary form of communication to bridge perspectives on various complex issues in the country, primarily the presidential elections. This communication is expected to be repeated and continued in order to accomplish the necessary obligations; otherwise, the country remains mired in vacuity and obstruction, leaving citizens to suffer through severe crises.
However, Parolin did not bring any new proposals, initiatives, or even ideas. This is confirmed by Father Abdo Abu Kassem, head of the Catholic Media Center, who indicates in a statement to the "Anbaa" online newspaper that Parolin does not carry initiatives or propositions but rather conveys a singular message from Pope Francis stressing the urgent need to elect a president as soon as possible.
Abu Kassem points out that Parolin is visiting Lebanon to follow the activities of the Martha Association and intends to visit its centers today in Ain El Rummaneh. However, the need for communication among Christian leaders is strong, and this is what Bkerke is actively working on and will continue to focus on in the coming period according to "Anbaa" online.
