Russia accused Ukraine on Tuesday of launching an attack on its southern borders, stating that it has sent reserve soldiers to help repel hundreds of tank-supported fighters. Hours after the governor of a Russian region announced the repulsion of the attackers, the Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that "the fighting is still ongoing." The ministry's statement noted, "The troops covering the state border, along with units from the border forces of the Russian Federal Security Service, are working to repel the assaults and fire at the enemy in the border area and at the reserve (Ukrainian) forces in the Sumy region." It added that "Russia is using warplanes to strike Ukrainian armored vehicles and has transferred reserve soldiers to the combat area."
