Dr. Bilal Harmoosh, President of the Lebanese Gathering for Justice and Development, condemned the governing coalition in Lebanon for its insistence on violating the constitution and the requirements of national partnership, replacing them with attempts to impose facts on the ground and disrupt the balances that support the Lebanese entity. He urged a retreat from this destructive path, which threatens the collapse of foundational structures and the capacity of Lebanon to endure amid the sharp regional and international transformations occurring in the world and the surrounding region. He emphasized that relying on weapons or foreign intervention would have counterproductive results, as Lebanon can only thrive with all its citizens, and exclusion leads to ruin in national life.
Harmoosh rejected the attempts of Hezbollah's camp to undermine constitutional institutions, notably the presidency, and highlighted the cracks affecting other state institutions, which now struggle to fulfill their duties. He questioned why, if the constitution does not stipulate dialogue during the presidential election, the free citizens of the country should accept the violation of the law and a new reality that is intended to be enforced at every presidential election. He called on the Shiite duo to disclose their actual agenda, asserting that everything they propose amounts to changing the system and amending the constitution.
Harmoosh concluded by stating: if the duo intends to change the system and abolish the Taif Agreement, they should declare their objectives and be transparent with the Lebanese people about their intentions instead of pursuing overt encroachment. He reminded them of the heavy costs that the Lebanese had paid to reach the Taif Agreement, asserting that Lebanon is neither Syria, Iraq, nor Yemen, as its religious and cultural diversity prevents the erasure of its historical identity, which will endure regardless of opposition.
