A source close to the employees indicated that salaries will be transferred to the Bank of Lebanon starting today, and will be sent to the banks immediately, allowing for disbursement within a timeframe not exceeding this Thursday or Friday. It is expected that employees will start receiving their payments by this Wednesday, according to "Al-Liwaa." Finance employees announced their temporary return to work today to safeguard the interests of employees and in line with the position of the General Administration Employees Union, aiming to process salaries and pensions for employees and retirees.
It was reported by the directors in the General Directorate of Finance that, based on the Finance Minister's acknowledgment of the efforts of finance employees, and out of a sense of responsibility with the approaching month of Ramadan, they called on employees to work to complete the salary disbursement process and its annexes. The directors also urged retirees not to close the ministry's doors which work for them.
Meanwhile, while the directors of the General Directorate of Finance announced a temporary return to work today to complete salary payments and fulfill as many requests from citizens as possible, the official committee of hourly contracted professors at the Lebanese University has decided to go on a general strike starting today for a duration of one week across all university colleges and branches. They called in a statement for contracted professors to participate in a large demonstration in front of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education at eleven o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, to expedite the approval of the tenure file and secure the rights of contracted professors, which include increasing the hourly wage and providing productivity and transportation allowances.
However, the administration of the Lebanese University decided to continue classes. In a statement, in response to the announcements made by some groups of hourly contracted professors calling for a general strike and a request to the Minister of Education to approve the tenure file for all eligible individuals, and noting that no statement had been issued by the Association of Full-Time Professors at the Lebanese University, and to preserve the students' interests and prevent the creation of instability in the colleges and branches of the university, the administration declared that tomorrow will be a normal teaching day across all colleges and institutes of the Lebanese University according to "Al-Liwaa."
