French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has called for an "immediate strengthening" of security for the Jewish community in France, following a call by the Hamas movement for a day of rage in response to the assassination of its leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. In a cable sent to security agencies, the resigning interior minister stated that "the risk of (the call for rage) turning into a real act is especially concerning, as many Israeli citizens are present on French soil due to the Olympics."
The minister requested "mobilization without delay for police and gendarmerie officers, as well as for soldiers of the security forces to ensure the protection of places frequented by our Jewish citizens in the coming days, especially during religious rituals." Additionally, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged on Friday for French citizens "who are still in Iran" to leave the country "as soon as possible" due to the "escalating" risk of military confrontation between Iran and Israel.
