Bassil: If Intentions Are Sincere, We Will Have a President

The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gebran Bassil, announced, "I informed the delegation from the Moderation Bloc that visited me today that the core issue is to agree on a reformist, sovereign, and national president. If that is not possible, then democratic competition through voting remains much better than a vacuum." In a statement on the platform "X," he said, "Therefore, while we continue our positive engagement with the proposed initiative, we believe that formalities, important as they sometimes are, can be overlooked if the outcome is guaranteed by reaching an agreement to elect a president. For this to happen, we must ensure that an election session is held through a written commitment from the participating parties outlining all agreed-upon points, with priority given to the consensus on a single name within a specified timeframe, such as three days. If that is not possible, then through consecutive voting sessions over three consecutive days within a week."

Bassil pointed out that "if any candidate fails to reach the threshold of 65 votes during these rounds, we have provided ideas on how to ensure that happens in the following week." He emphasized that "the most important thing remains the clear and public commitment from participants, firstly, to seek consensus, secondly, to not boycott the election sessions, and thirdly, to adhere to the agreed-upon voting in the following week." He added, "Thus, if intentions are sincere, we will have a president for the republic."
