Defending champions Bayern Munich lost 3-2 to Bochum on Sunday, marking the Bavarian team's third consecutive defeat in all competitions, leaving them eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen, who lead the Bundesliga. The match also saw Dayot Upamecano shown a red card for Bayern for the second consecutive game, having been sent off during the defeat against Lazio in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday.
Bayern Munich took the lead in the 13th minute with a goal from Jamal Musiala, but Bochum responded with two goals in the first half, netted by Takuma Asano and Kevin Schlotterbeck, in a stunning comeback that increased the pressure on Bayern's coach Thomas Tuchel. The match was halted multiple times due to fans throwing tennis balls onto the pitch in protest against plans for foreign investments in the Bundesliga.
Bochum added a third goal in the 85th minute through Kevin Stöger from a penalty awarded by the referee after Upamecano was sent off for elbowing an opposing player in the penalty area. Harry Kane did score a second goal for Bayern in stoppage time, marking his 25th goal in the league.
Bayern Munich's points total remains at 50 in second place, eight points behind Leverkusen, while Bochum climbed to 11th place with 25 points. In response to the loss, Bayern Munich's CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen stated that coach Thomas Tuchel would remain in charge until the next Bundesliga match, despite the surprising 3-2 defeat to Bochum on Sunday, resulting in the team's third consecutive loss in all competitions.
Dreesen told reporters when asked if Tuchel would be the coach for the upcoming match against RB Leipzig next Saturday: "Of course." He added, "I am not a fan of strong statements supporting the coach. They usually expire after a week. But this (the coach's future) is not an issue we are dealing with at the moment." He continued, "We must focus on our upcoming matches."
