Iran's acting Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri, stated that Iran has been able to utilize the opportunities provided by its membership in the BRICS group to achieve its goals over the past six months. According to the Novosti agency, Bagheri said, "Since the official membership of Iran in BRICS began, Tehran has been able to take advantage of various opportunities through this group to achieve its objectives." As an example, he mentioned the proposal made by the late Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi to South Africa regarding holding a BRICS summit on the situation in Gaza, noting that this meeting is unprecedented. He clarified that for the first time, "an organization whose main tasks include economic and trade matters discussed an important international issue that is neither economic nor commercial." Russia has been heading the BRICS group since January 1, 2024, starting its presidency with the addition of new members. In addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the BRICS group now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Under its presidency, Russia is organizing over 200 political, economic, and social events, including a meeting for the foreign ministers of the member countries in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
