Title: Families of Port Explosion Victims: Abboud Promised Us a Final Solution Soon

Despite the stalled convening of the Supreme Judicial Council to decide on the appointment of an additional judge and heads of the Court of Cassation, Council President Judge Suhail Abboud met yesterday with the families of the victims of the port explosion at the Palace of Justice. After the meeting, the brother of victim Joe Noun, William Noun, confirmed that Judge Abboud promised them a legal and final solution to the Beirut port investigation within the coming days. He added that "the sessions will remain suspended as long as the appointment of an additional judge is still pending," emphasizing that "some of the detainees should remain in prison," and rejecting any solution for detainees while the investigations in this case are halted. Sources from the attendees informed "Nidaa Al-Watan" that the families left the meeting without receiving anything from Abboud. They continued, saying, "The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Suhail Abboud, promised the families of the martyrs of the Beirut Fire Brigade to find an appropriate solution to ensure the convening of the General Assembly of the Court of Cassation to decide on the case related to the Beirut port explosion file. He stated that he and the judicial council are working on finding an appropriate legal solution for the case of the Court of Cassation judges, without disclosing this solution and its details." The sources reported that Abboud received a proposal from the families to have an acting judge take the place of the original judge in the meeting of the Court of Cassation judges, but he preferred that the solution be through the law, which he is working on with the hope of reaching an agreement on it soon.
