A video has circulated on social media documenting the sinking of the floating dock in Gaza, which was established by American forces to deliver aid to the area. Israeli journalist Yinon Magal shared the video on his page on the "X" platform, writing: "The Americans' dock is sinking."
Two days prior, the U.S. military announced that four of its ships supporting the operation of the floating dock for humanitarian aid to Gaza had run aground amid rough seas, and efforts were underway to pull them back. Israeli media reported on Saturday that waters had swept away a part of the floating dock in Gaza.
Israeli Channel 12 stated that water had carried part of the American floating dock to the shores of Ashdod, roughly a week after its opening. The channel clarified that a segment of the American dock separated and was swept away towards Ashdod beach, apparently due to the force of the waves. They added that naval forces arrived at the scene and helped secure the drifting part for retrieval, with no injuries reported from the incident.
Additionally, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth explained that the separated part of the floating dock was an "American barge" that a warship was transporting to the dock off Gaza. They noted that the barge disconnected from the ship due to rising waves and began drifting towards Ashdod beach. The American warship attempted to rescue it but encountered difficulties of its own, prompting the dispatch of another vessel in the area to assist in the rescue operation.
It is noteworthy that the cost of establishing the floating dock in Gaza, which was opened last week, could reach $320 million, and it is expected to provide a new pathway for delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the region.
