Jordan's King Warns of Consequences of Attack on Rafah

Jordanian King Abdullah II discussed the latest developments in the Middle East during a phone call with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Sunday. During the conversation, King Abdullah warned of the danger of escalation in the region, which threatens international peace and security. He urged the international community to intensify efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza to mitigate the worsening humanitarian disaster in the area, cautioning about the consequences of the anticipated Israeli attack on Rafah.

The King emphasized the necessity of protecting civilians in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, highlighting the importance of continuing support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to provide its humanitarian services according to its UN mandate.

It is noteworthy that Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant discussed earlier this month the preparations for necessary civil operations for a ground incursion by the army into Rafah, affirming the "need to focus on evacuating civilians from Rafah." Israeli broadcasting reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to postpone the military operation in Rafah, while reaffirming that international pressure on Israel would not deter him from executing a military operation there. Later, the Israeli army announced its intention to recruit two reserve brigades for operational tasks in Gaza in the coming days based on its assessment of the situation.
