Tunis woke up on the second day of Eid al-Adha to the horrifying news of a gruesome crime that shocked the Kairouan Governorate in the central-western part of the country, resulting in the death of a mother of two. According to the details, the public prosecutor's office at the Kairouan Court of First Instance detained a husband who was involved in the murder of his 30-year-old wife early Monday morning, using a knife in a brutal manner after pursuing her in a public street. This incident occurred following a dispute between them, during which the husband attacked his wife, forcing her to flee outside the home. However, the perpetrator armed himself with a knife and followed her into one of the streets, where he knocked her to the ground and began inflicting several stabs on her body in a horrific manner before ultimately slaughtering her, as reported by local media. It is noted that Tunisia recorded approximately 70 cases of femicide within the family setting over the past five years, including 25 that occurred during the last year, amidst calls from women's organizations for the enforcement of laws against perpetrators and to eliminate the culture of impunity.
