Bodies Recovery Continues Off the Coast of Libya

The recovery of bodies continued today, Sunday, for the fourth consecutive day, following the capsizing of a migrant boat in the waters off the coast of Sabratha, west of the Libyan capital, Tripoli. The discovery of these bodies came after multiple reports from citizens about bodies washing ashore in the city. In a special statement to "Sputnik," the director of the Red Crescent in Sabratha, Hamza al-Sharif, said that "the recovery operations took place over the last three days, with three bodies recovered last Thursday, four bodies recovered on Friday morning, and three more bodies found on Friday evening."

The Libyan official added that "seven bodies were recovered yesterday, Saturday, and work continues today, Sunday," confirming that "there are still 15 bodies in the water that will be recovered after completing the procedures with the Public Prosecution and the police." He explained that "the recovery operations are conducted by a team of volunteers, with the participation of a female volunteer who is participating in body recovery for the first time."

Al-Sharif stated that "the recovery operations take place in coordination with police stations. After investigations, the bodies are recovered and transported to the Sabratha Hospital to complete the legal procedures with the forensic doctor."
