Casualties in Israeli Airstrike on Syria: What Was Targeted?

Israel launched an airstrike on Syria, with conflicting reports regarding the nature and location of the target. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the number of casualties from the Israeli strike on a location in the Al-Furqlus area has risen to 5, including 3 Syrians from "Hezbollah" militias and 2 from the same militias of non-Syrian nationality, increasing the total to 6, including a child who died in the Israeli strikes on Baniyas, and 5 others in the Al-Furqlus area in Homs.

Earlier, the observatory announced the killing of 3 Syrian members working with the Lebanese "Hezbollah" militias due to an Israeli strike on a military site in the Al-Furqlus area in eastern Homs. In Baniyas, a child was killed when two missiles (Israeli-Syrian) fell during an aerial engagement at the Jala Taha center for manufacturing fishing boats in the port, where two individuals remain missing. Another missile hit a residential building in Batla Nufus, in addition to at least 12 civilians being transferred to the city hospital.

The Syrian Observatory indicated that air defenses attempted to respond to an Israeli attack on Syrian sites, as Israeli missiles targeted at least one military location in Homs, near Al-Furqlus, resulting in columns of smoke rising from the site. It is noted that the Al-Furqlus area is populated by Hezbollah forces and Iranian militias.

For its part, the Syrian news agency "SANA" reported that "Syrian air defenses intercepted hostile targets in the skies over Homs." Later, SANA announced, "A child was killed and ten civilians were injured due to an Israeli aggression targeting a site in the central region and a residential building in the city of Baniyas, in Tartus province."

The agency quoted a military source stating, "Around 7:30 PM on Wednesday, the Israeli enemy launched an aerial aggression from the direction of Lebanese territories, targeting a site in the central region and a residential building in the city of Baniyas in the coastal area." The source clarified that "the aggression resulted in the death of a child and ten civilians sustaining injuries and some material losses."

Previously, the Syrian news agency announced hearing explosions in the country, explaining that "Syrian air defenses are responding to hostile targets in the country’s airspace."
