Libya: Abdullah Senoussi’s Trial Postponed to July 22

The Tripoli Court of Appeal has postponed the trial session of Abdullah Senoussi, the head of the intelligence service during Muammar Gaddafi's regime, to July 22. Senoussi’s lawyer, Ahmed Nashad, stated that the court was unable to complete the investigation with some other defendants in the case, notably the prime minister of Gaddafi's regime, Baghdadi Mahmoudi. The lawyer explained that "communication with Mahmoudi was hindered due to his presence outside Libya, leading to the postponement of the trial to complete the necessary investigations." He added that "this postponement comes in the context of the court's commitment to ensuring full justice by hearing all parties and testimonies relevant to the case." It is noted that Abdullah Senoussi faces charges related to crimes committed during Muammar Gaddafi's rule, and his trial is part of ongoing efforts to hold those responsible for that period accountable. Mauritanian authorities had arrested Abdullah Senoussi, nicknamed "the butcher," at Nouakchott International Airport in 2012 after he arrived in Mauritania from another African country.
