U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is still possible. Biden stated in press remarks after spending the weekend at Camp David that talks are still ongoing and that "we will not give up." These statements coincide with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Israel on Sunday, aimed at intensifying diplomatic pressure to reach an agreement for a ceasefire in Gaza. Blinken is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday during his tenth visit to the region since the onset of Israeli aggression against Gaza in October. According to Reuters, after his visit to Israel, Blinken is set to head to Egypt as part of a tour in the Middle East. U.S. officials indicated a new optimism regarding the possibility of a deal, but also warned that much work remains to be done.
