Sinking of Oil Tanker in the Philippines Raises Environmental Concerns

Sixteen sailors were rescued while one is missing after an oil tanker flying the Philippine flag sank, carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel off the coast of Manila. Efforts are underway to combat the fuel leak into the water. Philippine Transport Minister Jaime Bautista stated in a press conference, "We managed to rescue 16 out of 17 crew members, and one person is missing." Following the sinking incident, an oil slick was discovered, prompting marine environmental protection personnel to be mobilized to help contain it.
