Syria has allowed Russian civilian aircraft to pass through its airspace, and is now awaiting Moscow's decision on this matter, according to what was reported by the "Novosti" agency from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority. The Director General of Syrian Civil Aviation, Engineer Bassam Mansour, stated: "The Russian Civil Aviation Authority submitted a request to the Syrian authorities to allow Russian aircraft to transit through its airspace, and the Syrian government granted permission immediately. Syria, in turn, requested from Russia to provide it with a flight schedule to facilitate air corridors, but we are currently waiting for a response from the Russian side." According to the Syrian official, Damascus can ensure safe passage for Russian civil aircraft through its airspace. The official noted that "Cypriot, Iraqi, Lebanese, and Jordanian airlines are currently flying through Syria to Lebanon and Jordan." It is worth mentioning that since the 15th of this month, the Russian airline iFly has canceled or rescheduled its flights to Egypt due to issues related to restrictions imposed on Russian airlines flying over Jordan, with Syria being mentioned as a potential alternative.
