The commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed that peace in Sudan will not be achieved unless the Rapid Support Forces withdraw from the areas they have occupied and move to regions that accept them. He added, today, Wednesday, in front of a crowd of army soldiers in the city of Merowe in the Northern State: "There will be no political process until the war in the country ends." Al-Burhan criticized those who accuse the resistance members of igniting the war, stating that "the war was started by those who carried weapons, killed the innocent, and displaced citizens from their homes." He emphasized that "the army will continue to fight and advance towards the city of Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State." The Rapid Support Forces are besieging the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, amidst indications of an impending attack on the only city still outside their control in the troubled region.
