Cypriot Ambassador: We Support Lebanon's Position on the Syrian Displacement Issue

The Cypriot Ambassador to Lebanon, Maria Hajji Theodosiou, stated that "Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides promised to support Lebanon's issues in the European group and international forums." She reiterated her country's support for Lebanon's viewpoint on the Syrian displacement file, noting that "there has been a development in the positions of most European governments regarding this complex issue."

Ambassador Theodosiou's remarks came during her visit to the Maronite League at the invitation of its political committee, where a meeting was held that included the League's president, Ambassador Khalil Karam, several former presidents of the League, and members of the executive council and political committee.

During the visit, the Cypriot ambassador conveyed an oral message from the Cypriot president to the League's president and its members, highlighting the historical and brotherly relationship between Lebanon and Cyprus. She reminded them that the first meeting he had with Lebanese figures following his election was with Ambassador Khalil Karam, the League's president, and his accompanying delegation, where he promised to support Lebanon's issues in the European group and international forums.

The ambassador also discussed bilateral relations, regional challenges, and the volatile situation in the Middle East. She provided an overview of the Maronite community in Cyprus and their role in public life and economic development on the island. The discussion during the meeting also included the Syrian displacement issue, where the ambassador affirmed her country's support for the Lebanese perspective on the matter and noted developments among most European governments regarding this complex file.
