Chinese state media reported that the Ningbo-Zhoushan port, one of the busiest ports in the world, announced an explosion on a container ship today, Friday. Reports indicated that there were no reports of casualties following the explosion on the ship "Mobility" at 05:40 GMT. Footage aired by China Central Television (CCTV) showed the explosion occurring among containers near the bow of the Liberia-flagged vessel, causing cargo to be scattered and a plume of black smoke to rise.
The Ningbo Maritime Search and Rescue Center stated that the ship, which is currently docked at the Beilun terminal of the port, was carrying hazardous cargo. The state-run "Chuzhou Evening News" reported that the crew of the ship and dockworkers were safe, but some offices of a nearby company sustained damage from the explosion.
