Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, affirmed, "We are doing our utmost to end the suffering caused by the war in Sudan, and we have sincerely sought to avoid war and spare the country its consequences." He stated, "We agree to the American call to continue negotiations in Geneva to stop the war," adding, "We invite the other party to respond to this call." During his speech today, he called for "the formation of an international commission to investigate who ignited the war in Sudan." He pointed out that "there is no legitimate government in Sudan after the coup on October 25," and said, "We renew our commitment to the democratic transition and to excluding the military from politics."
U.S. Special Envoy Tom Perriello confirmed today that the talks aimed at ending the war between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has been ongoing for 15 months, will proceed in Geneva this week.
