Christian Front Accuses Resistance Axis of Syrian Refugee Wave

The "Christian Front," following its regular meeting at its headquarters in Achrafieh, accused Bashar Assad's regime and "Hezbollah" of causing the recent wave of displacement that threatens the Lebanese entity as a whole. They considered that these parties facilitate the passage of refugees into Lebanese territory through gangs directly linked to them, which could increase the level of poverty among Lebanese people who have been suffering from a severe financial crisis since 2019. This situation also poses a significant security threat that could ignite the country at any moment.

They confirmed that the main evidence of this wave lies in its transformation into a masked occupation, with worse to come. Thus, the political authority must urgently take necessary measures before the worst occurs. The Front also condemned the recent statement by Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who called for opening the sea to refugees under the pretext of enticing Europeans to act and flock to Lebanon. They stated that this puts pressure on the government, placing it in confrontation with the international community, which is extremely dangerous.

The Front harshly criticized the "malevolent" actions of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, which they claimed supports immigration to Lebanon. They cited alarming data recently showing that the Commission funds unregistered displacement, encouraging Syrians still in their country to come to Lebanon. Additionally, new refugees will receive 10 dollars daily without doing any work. They expressed support for the opposition, which prepared a plan to confront displacement on two main fronts: distributing refugees among Arab countries and ending the work of the high commissioner for refugees, which spends money on about 900,000 unregistered refugees.

The Front praised Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi's stance, who confirmed that such blatant misconduct regarding displacement is unacceptable. He called on the UNHCR to respond and review the protocols it signed with Lebanon, asserting that Lebanon is not for sale, and they categorically reject the violation of their country and the alteration of its demographics for money. They also noted the tremendous efforts of the Lebanese Army in working to arrest thousands at the Lebanese borders.
