Effective Vitamin for Treating Skin Rashes

Scientists from Northwestern Medicine have found that Vitamin D is effective in treating skin rashes caused by chemical substances. The journal JCI Insight reports that researchers analyzed samples taken from 28 healthy volunteers, whose inner arm skin was exposed to a small amount of nitrogen mustard, an irritant that resulted in a rash. The researchers then asked half of them to take high doses of Vitamin D, while the other half received a placebo. The results showed improvement in the skin condition of volunteers who took Vitamin D compared to the skin condition of members of the other group. Analysis of blood and tissue samples revealed that the inflammatory signaling pathway IL-17 was suppressed in those who took Vitamin D. According to experts, this confirms the potential use of IL-17 as a promising biomarker for severe reactions to topical chemotherapy and other medications. The researchers note that these results align with previous studies. Therefore, they plan to continue investigating the anti-inflammatory properties of Vitamin D in oral vitamin supplements during the treatment of other types of skin rashes using various methods and medications.
