Iraqi politician Mashaan al-Jubouri issued a threat to the Sovereignty Party today, Friday, regarding the ongoing negotiations over the new Speaker of Parliament. Al-Jubouri stated in a post on the "X" platform: "The spokespersons for the (Sovereignty Party) claimed that I am not authorized to negotiate a compromise candidate for the presidency of the Council of Representatives." He added, "The truth is that I am authorized by Sheikh al-Khanshar, with a voice confirmation dated 13/8/2024, which specifies the name of the candidate." Al-Jubouri demanded that the Sovereignty Party issue a statement apologizing for denying his authorization, or he will have to publish it to let public opinion know who is lying. Earlier, the leadership of the Sovereignty Party confirmed that Abdul Khaleq al-Izari, the Vice President of the Sovereignty Party, is the only official responsible for negotiating and speaking on behalf of the party's Secretary General, Khamis al-Khanshar, regarding current political issues.
