Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani confirmed on Wednesday that completing armament procedures has become a necessary and priority issue. According to a statement from the Prime Minister's media office, "Sudani chaired the third meeting of the Higher Committee for Armament, during which the needs of our armed forces for armament were discussed, to enhance their combat and field capabilities in facing various security challenges."
Sudani emphasized the importance of the armament file within the government's program, considering it a requirement related to ending the presence of the international coalition and addressing security challenges and threats in all their forms. He confirmed that the required financial allocations for armament are included in the 2024 budget tables, explaining that "the committee has taken sufficient time for discussions, meeting with companies, and conducting visits, and it has been entrusted to unit leaders to determine the weapons they need."
The Prime Minister stressed that "completing armament procedures has become a necessary and priority issue," confirming that "these procedures must be safe, legal, transparent, and meet all requirements, taking into account all observations raised by oversight bodies regarding previous contracts." He directed the relevant technical departments to send their procedures and then proceed with the legal steps in selecting companies based on preliminary research with countries.
