Closure of "X" Office in Brazil: Elon Musk's Comment

Closure of

The platform "X" announced that it will close its office in Brazil "immediately" due to what it described as "regulatory orders" issued by Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes. "X" claims that Moraes secretly threatened one of its legal representatives in Brazil with arrest if they did not comply with legal orders to remove certain content from the platform. The Supreme Court of Brazil, where Moraes works, has not yet responded to a request for comment. The platform, owned by American billionaire Elon Musk, stated on Saturday that its services remain available to users in Brazil. Earlier this year, Moraes ordered "X" to ban certain accounts while investigating what is known as "digital militias," accused of spreading fake news and hate messages during the presidency of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Moraes opened an investigation this year targeting Musk after the latter stated that he would restore accounts on X that the judge had ordered banned. Musk described Moraes' decisions as "unconstitutional." Following Musk's challenge to the decisions, X representatives informed the Brazilian Supreme Court that the social media giant would comply with legal rulings.
