Berri: Lebanon Must Be an Arab Country or Not at All

Today, Thursday, President of the Parliament Nabih Berri received a delegation of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports participating in the opening ceremony of Beirut as the Capital of Arab Youth for the year 2023. The delegation was headed by the Chairman of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, and attended by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Minister Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, the Minister of Youth and Sports in the caretaker government George Kallas, the Egyptian Ambassador Yasser Alalawi, and the Head of the Iraqi Embassy Mission in Beirut, Amin Alnasrawi.

President Berri emphasized that "Lebanon must either be an Arab country or not be at all. There cannot be a wound in any Arab country without us feeling that wound in Lebanon." He considered that "the biggest wound in the Arab body is the bleeding Palestinian wound in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip." He continued: "I assure you that there is no language that the Israeli enemy understands except the language of resistance to deter its aggression, to deter it in Palestine, which represents to us the Ashura of this nation in our current era."

President Berri stated: "Your meeting today in the capital, Beirut, is an oasis of hope in this hot summer in the lives of the Lebanese, who always look forward to the support and solidarity of their Arab brothers at all levels, especially in this current phase that requires all of us to strengthen the culture of dialogue and invest in sincere wills among us as Arab brothers and among us as children of one nation, which enables us to overcome the challenges that threaten Lebanon and the region."

He also wished the Arab youth ministers to discuss the idea of establishing a Parliament for Arab youth in their agenda. After the meeting, Minister of Youth and Sports George Kallas said: "We were honored today, along with my fellow Arab ministers of youth and sports, to visit President Nabih Berri, to present to him our project for the opening of Beirut as the Capital of Arab Youth. His Excellency sent a heartfelt signal to Arab youth from all countries, considering that Lebanon is still at the heart of the Arabs and requested that all Arabs remain in the heart of all Lebanon."
