An initial investigation by the Israeli army revealed the reason for the Iron Dome system's failure to intercept the missile that struck Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, resulting in the deaths of 12 people. According to the investigation results announced by Israeli army radio, "no interceptor missiles were launched due to the complex terrain," and it was "not possible to provide a longer warning time" that would allow for missile interception or sheltering.
The radio added: "The initial investigation by the Israeli army shows that there was no issue in detecting the missile. Its launch was immediately detected, and the warning was activated in Majdal Shams accordingly." However, "it was not possible to activate the alert earlier and provide more time for defense due to the short distance" covered by the missile.
According to a military source, the time from the activation of the alert to the impact of the missile was about 20 seconds, but residents of the town claim that it was only a few seconds. The investigation results clarified: "There was difficulty in interception. No interceptor missiles were launched from the Iron Dome, primarily due to the complex terrain," as the missile crossed Mount Hermon.
Israeli army radio continued: "The missile’s low flight altitude and other reasons made interception difficult." Israel claims that the Lebanese Hezbollah is behind the missile launch, but the Iran-backed group denies this.
