Saudi Arabia: Over 20,000 Violators of Residence and Labor Laws Detained

Joint field campaigns to monitor and apprehend violators of residence and labor laws, as well as border security in Saudi Arabia, conducted across all regions of the Kingdom from 04/07/2024 to 10/07/2024, resulted in the detention of (20,093) violators. Among them, (12,460) were violators of the residency system, (5,400) were violators of border security laws, and (2,233) were violators of labor laws.

A total of (1,737) individuals were apprehended while attempting to cross the borders into the Kingdom, with (42%) being of Yemeni nationality, (57%) Ethiopian nationality, and (01%) of other nationalities. Additionally, (49) individuals were detained for attempting to cross the borders out of the Kingdom illegally.

Moreover, (16) individuals were involved in the transport, shelter, and employment of violators of residence and labor laws, as well as border security, and were hiding them. The total number currently subject to enforcement actions is (19,841) violators, consisting of (18,209) men and (1,632) women.

Furthermore, (9,438) violators were referred to their diplomatic missions for travel document processing, (3,833) violators were referred to complete their travel bookings, and (11,655) violators were deported.

Penalties of up to imprisonment were emphasized by the Ministry of Interior, stating that anyone who facilitates the entry of violators of border security laws into Saudi Arabia, transports them within the country, provides them shelter, or offers any assistance or service in any form, subjects themselves to penalties of up to 15 years in prison, a financial fine of up to one million riyals, confiscation of the means of transport and shelter used, in addition to public disgrace.

The Ministry clarified that this crime is considered a major offense warranting detention and is detrimental to honor and trust. It urged reporting any violations by calling the numbers (911) in the Makkah, Riyadh, and Eastern regions, and (999) and (996) in other areas of the Kingdom.
