Portuguese Pepe Retires from Football

The Portuguese defender Pepe (41 years old) announced his retirement from football today, Thursday. Pepe played his last match in the UEFA Euro 2024, where his team lost to France in the quarter-finals on penalties, making him the oldest player to appear in the European Championship finals. The veteran defender participated in 141 matches with the national team, won the European Championship in 2016, and spent 10 seasons at Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League titles, in addition to winning the Club World Cup twice. Pepe joined the Spanish team in 2007 from Porto, before returning to the Portuguese club in 2019 to continue until the end of his career, winning four Primeira Liga titles during his two stints at the club.
