Two charitable organizations announced today, Friday, the disappearance of a boat in the Mediterranean Sea carrying 500 migrants, including a newborn and pregnant women. The group "Alarm Phone," which responds to distress calls from migrant ships, stated that it lost contact with the boat on Wednesday morning.
Additionally, a spokesperson for the Italian NGO Emergency indicated today that the search is still ongoing, adding that the migrants may have been transferred to another boat or might have managed to repair their boat's engine and continue sailing towards Sicily. The organization noted yesterday that its vessel "Life Support" and the "Ocean Viking," which also operates in migrant rescue, searched for the missing boat for 24 hours without success and did not find any debris.
