American singer and actress Tina Turner passed away today, Wednesday, at the age of 83. Born Anna Mae Bullock, known as the Queen of Rock and Roll, in Nutbush, Tennessee, she began her artistic career in 1958 with the King of Rhythm, Ike Turner. Her first song was titled "A Fool in Love." Her first official introduction to the scene came in 1960 as Tina Turner, a member of the Ike and Turner duo, with the single "It's Gonna Work Out Fine." Following this, the duo achieved significant successes including "River Deep – Mountain High" (1966), "Proud Mary" (1971), and "Nutbush City Limits" (1973). In her autobiography "I, Tina: My Life Story" (1986), she revealed that she experienced domestic violence at the hands of Ike Turner just before their separation in 1976 and their divorce in 1978. After her divorce and professional separation from Ike Turner, she rebuilt her career through live performances. In the 1980s, Turner made a strong comeback as a solo artist. She released the song "Let's Stay Together" in 1983, followed by her fifth solo album "Private Dancer" in 1984, which achieved global success. The album included the song "What's Love Got to Do with It," which became Turner's most successful song and won four Grammy Awards, including "Record of the Year." Turner's solo success continued through the 1980s and 1990s with several "platinum albums" and many hit songs. In 1993, a film inspired by Turner's autobiography, "What's Love Got to Do with It," was released alongside a companion soundtrack album. In 2008, Turner came out of semi-retirement to embark on her concert tour "Tina: 50th Anniversary Tour," which became one of the highest-grossing and most sold-out tours. Turner gained some of her fame from acting in films such as the rock musical "Tommy" in 1975, the action film "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" in 1985, and the movie "Last Action Hero" in 1993. She won 12 Grammy Awards, including 8 competitive awards, 3 Grammys for her contributions to the Hall of Fame, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Turner has her own stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. In 1991, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Ike Turner. In 2005, she received the annual Kennedy Center Honors.
