Iranian authorities in the northern part of the country arrested the famous singer from Azerbaijan, Mamedova Masoumeh Gharib Qazi, known as "Damn," on Tuesday. A statement from the judiciary indicated that "Iranian authorities closed a hall in Ardabil province in northwest Iran where a concert by the famous Azerbaijani singer Damn was held."
It added that "the concert featured immoral acts, as the Azerbaijani artist appeared in a nearly naked manner in the hall in Ardabil." In the past few days, images of the singer's performance in Ardabil went viral on social media. The judicial authorities confirmed that "this artist and singer from Azerbaijan will be dealt with according to the law, and those involved in organizing this concert will be arrested."
Since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran, women's singing has been prohibited and this ban continues to this day. Adherence to the hijab approved by the government is mandatory not only for citizens of this country but also for foreign visitors entering Iran.
The Iranian news agency "Ruqna" reported that the prominent Azerbaijani singer "Damn" appeared in Ardabil and Tehran in a "nearly naked" manner during several concerts. Damn, a famous singer from Baku, traveled to the city of Tabriz in northwest Iran a few days ago, where she was welcomed by many residents of the city. The agency noted that "a large number of Azerbaijani Turks from Urmia, Ardabil, and Rasht came to visit her in the past two days."
