Israel officially recognized the new offshore natural gas reserves by Energean Oil and Gas today, estimating them at around 68 billion cubic meters of gas. The Israeli Ministry of Energy stated that development could commence following approval of the Katlan field reserves. The Katlan field is located near two other fields off the Mediterranean coast of Israel, Tanin and Karish, which are also owned by Energean. Energean's CEO, Mathios Rigas, mentioned that the company will soon begin developing the Katlan field, thereby "opening new opportunities for Israeli gas in the local and regional market."
