Abu Dhabi will host the premiere of "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One" on June 26 in the Middle East. The event will celebrate the presence of the film's cast, including global star Tom Cruise and series director Christopher McQuarrie, at the Emirates Palace.
Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Simon Pegg are also set to join Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie for the premiere event in the region.
Abu Dhabi previously witnessed the filming of several key scenes in the new film at the new Abu Dhabi International Airport and in the Liwa Desert, marking the second time the emirate has been chosen to film scenes from the global "Mission Impossible" series, following the successful filming of a parachute jump scene in "Mission Impossible: Fallout," which achieved impressive success in 2018 due to the collaboration between the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, twofour54, and the UAE Armed Forces.
The new film's scenes were shot in locations selected by Paramount Pictures, which focused on the distinctive atmosphere and stunning natural landmarks of the Liwa Desert, as well as the iconic new Abu Dhabi International Airport, with support from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission affiliated with the Creative Media Authority - Abu Dhabi.
The filming involved the construction of an Arab village in the heart of the desert, in addition to numerous filming sites in the new Abu Dhabi International Airport building, which required a collaborative effort from various institutions and government entities in the emirate, such as twofour54, Abu Dhabi Airports, and Etihad Airways - the official airline partner of the film.
Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, stated, "The premiere of 'Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One' in Abu Dhabi reflects the emirate's status as one of the best filming locations for cinema and television in the Middle East and North Africa. We are proud to collaborate once again with this globally renowned series, considered one of the most famous action films ever, showcasing what Abu Dhabi has to offer for global filmmakers to produce blockbuster works."
The success of filming parts of "Mission Impossible: Fallout" in Abu Dhabi was sufficient to attract Paramount Pictures to cooperate with the Abu Dhabi Film Commission once again for the filming of critical scenes in the new installment of the global series, with this time focusing on the new Abu Dhabi International Airport and the captivating landscapes of the Liwa Desert that enriched the film scenes.
The Abu Dhabi Film Commission also provided necessary support to the crew by granting approvals and required permits for shooting, as well as coordinating closely with many stakeholders and government entities in the emirate.
Filming for the movie began in Abu Dhabi in 2021 after more than a year of planning, lasting over 15 days at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued uninterrupted thanks to the precautionary protocols established by the Commission in Abu Dhabi. In addition to building filming locations among the majestic sand dunes of the Liwa Desert, the crew also filmed on the highest surface of the new Abu Dhabi International Airport building, which spans 742,000 square meters and is the largest standalone airport terminal in the world, featuring arches that stretch across 180 meters.
The production company received a cash rebate of 30% from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and enjoyed significant support from various companies based in Abu Dhabi and specialized vendors, employing 125 independent national filming experts, as well as 250 national supporting actors.
Meanwhile, twofour54 provided necessary support to the film crew by offering integrated production services, successfully securing filming permits and completing other requests for essential government services to ensure a smooth and comfortable filming experience.
The seventh installment of the "Mission Impossible" film series is one of 140 major cinematic works filmed in Abu Dhabi over the past decade, including productions from companies like Disney, Netflix, Legendary Pictures, and Universal Pictures. Recent films shot in the emirate include "Dune," "Dune Part Two," "Mission Impossible: Fallout," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Underground 6," and "Furious 7," as well as several international Bollywood films such as "Vikram Vedha," "Tiger Zinda Hai," and "Bharat."
