The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced the arrest of individuals charged with attacking restaurants in the capital, Baghdad, under Article 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Law. They expressed regret that some of the suspects belong to a security agency and carried out these "destructive" actions under the pretext of targeting American interests.
In a statement today, the ministry noted that on May 26, 27, and 30, incidents of vandalism and the throwing of homemade bombs occurred in Baghdad, specifically targeting (KFC Restaurant, Jelly House Liz, and Cambridge Institute in the Palestine Street area, as well as KFC and Caterpillar Company in the Al-Karrada area of Jadriya) by individuals using (7) vehicles and a motorcycle.
The statement added that investigative and technical teams were immediately formed to follow up on the matter and track down the perpetrators.
According to the statement, after gathering accurate information, they identified the names of the suspects, their workplaces, and residences, which led to a case being presented to the investigating judge who issued arrest warrants for the perpetrators according to the provisions of Article 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
The ministry stated that through a specialized operation, several suspects were arrested, and during interrogation, they confessed to participating with a group of other fugitives in the aforementioned acts of vandalism. It mentioned that arrest warrants had been issued for additional suspects, and the Ministry of Interior and other security agencies would continue to pursue the remaining wanted individuals.
The Interior Ministry concluded by saying that, regrettably, some of them belong to one of the security agencies, as they carried out these actions under the guise of damaging American interests, and that they were duly arrested in order to refer them to the competent courts.
