Manchester City, the reigning champions of the Premier League, announced today, Tuesday, that they have signed Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. The contract for the 29-year-old former Real Madrid player runs for four years. Kovacic stated on City's website: "It's a great step for me, I can't wait to start my journey with City." He added, "Anyone who watches this team under coach Pep Guardiola knows how wonderful it is. I consider it the best team in the world; the titles it has won speak for themselves. But it plays the best football." He confirmed that "joining this team is every player's dream; I need to learn and develop, and I trust that I will become a better player under Pep." The 29-year-old player is the first signing for the team that achieved a treble by winning the league, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. Kovacic joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid for the 2018-2019 season before moving permanently on a five-year deal. He helped the West London club win the Champions League in the 2020-2021 season, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021, in addition to the Europa League in the 2018-2019 season.
