In response to Iranian inquiries about the situation in Lebanon, Iraqi factions involved in what is known as "Islamic Resistance" have expressed their readiness to fight alongside Hezbollah in Lebanon in the event of a larger war. On June 13, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein warned of the potential outbreak of war in Lebanon during a press conference with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani. Two figures from the Coordination Framework told "Asharq Al-Awsat" that Bagheri Kani, upon arriving in Baghdad, rallied Iraqi officials behind the scenes regarding a possible war planned by Israel in southern Lebanon, asking for the Iraqis' stance. An Iraqi faction leader stated, "We were asked about our position if the Lebanon front escalates. We said: We are ready. We will go there."
Although faction leaders have informed the Iranian Revolutionary Guard of their willingness to support Lebanese Hezbollah, the latter has been cautious about their participation in Lebanon for reasons related to ensuring the ability to make operational decisions and the sensitive situation within Lebanon. A former Iraqi official suggested the most pessimistic scenario, stating that if a broader war were to break out, Iran might resort to dividing the map of Lebanon among resistance factions in a manner similar to what happened in Syria, according to "Asharq Al-Awsat."
