Specialists from the neurosurgery department at the Russian Children’s Hospital, under the Ministry of Health of Russia, succeeded in removing a significant head deformity from a two-year-old girl. The hospital's press office indicates that the girl, Milana, suffered from a major head deformity resulting from a traffic accident, which caused multiple fractures in her skull. Local hospital doctors managed to eliminate all deformities and restored the natural shape of the girl's head.
It became clear to the doctors that the severity of the injury led to the continuous accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid under the scalp, prompting the decision to transfer the girl to the central children's hospital. Neurosurgery specialist Dr. Dmitry Rishikov stated that when the girl was admitted to the hospital, more than a liter of fluid had accumulated under her scalp. He said, "After starting the operation, we noticed how the cerebrospinal fluid was leaking from under the bones that had not fused, so we removed all the fragments of the skull cap to locate the fissures in the dura mater through which the cerebrospinal fluid was leaking. We managed to seal these fissures using biological glue and other materials, then placed a titanium plate in the occipital-parietal region to correct the skull defect, after which we performed a scalp reconstruction."
According to him, after the surgery, the cerebrospinal fluid leakage reduced significantly and eventually stopped completely. Now, the girl's health has improved, and she can live a normal life like her other healthy peers.
