Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Monday, in front of a delegation including foreign ministers from the Palestinian Authority and four Arab and Muslim countries, that "the situation in Gaza affects all countries around the world," indicating that his country is "working to restore peace" to the Middle East. The delegation holding meetings with the Chinese foreign minister includes officials from the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and others.
Wang stated in his opening speech in Beijing: "A humanitarian disaster is unfolding in Gaza," adding: "The international community must act urgently and take effective measures to prevent this tragedy from widening." He emphasized that China "fully supports the call for a two-state solution issued by the Islamic Arab summit held in Riyadh" to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that China will work towards "restoring peace in the Middle East."
For his part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki noted that they are in Beijing "to discuss the brutal crimes committed by Israelis against the Palestinian people," adding that "Israel is calling for the liquidation of Palestinians and confiscating our rights, which violates the two-state solution."
Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated during the same meeting that the international community must bear responsibility for stopping what Israel is doing against Palestinians. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry also said: "We look forward to a stronger role from major powers like China to stop the aggressions against Palestinians in Gaza." He added: "There are major countries unfortunately providing cover for the current Israeli aggressions," continuing: "There has been a declared policy to displace Palestinians from Gaza, but the strong Egyptian and Arab stance against such displacement has been a red line. Displacement will threaten peace, security, and stability in the region and the world."
