Mikati: Lebanon is in the Eye of the Storm and the Decision for War Lies with Israel

The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that Lebanon is in the eye of the storm, and efforts are being made to keep it away from war. He said, "We demand an end to the Israeli provocations on the border, and the Lebanese people do not want war. If Lebanon enters this war, it will not be limited to Lebanon, and the region will be in chaos." Mikati confirmed in an interview with "Sky News" that "the decision for war is in the hands of Israel if it continues to violate borders and commit infringements."

In another context, Prime Minister Mikati met today with Minister of Tourism Walid Nassar at the Grand Serail. Nassar stated after the meeting: "I briefed President Mikati on my Gulf tour, which included Qatar and the UAE, and my participation in the 'Future Investment Initiative' held in Saudi Arabia. He added, "We are going through an unprecedented crisis due to the events happening in Gaza, and there will be a cabinet meeting this week where we will address several topics, the most important of which are the decisions we made in Saudi Arabia concerning Lebanon's participation in developmental projects taking place in the Kingdom, where Lebanon will have an important role in the future." He remarked, "People may think that we are in one place while the situation in Lebanon is in another, but despite everything, all ministers must act, and each minister should work in their ministry to seek opportunities and positive, sustainable matters for Lebanon and the Lebanese, especially in the brotherly Arab countries."

### Maronite League

President Mikati also received the head of the Maronite League, Ambassador Khalil Karam, who announced after the meeting: "We discussed the serious escalation at the Lebanese border with occupied Palestine and the repeated Israeli attacks on villages and towns in southern Lebanon. There was a focus on avoiding the situation slipping into a wider confrontation with high-cost consequences." The main event of the visit was the delivery of a document prepared by the League's committee on displacement and nationality, along with an accompanying roadmap that proposes practical solutions to this issue. I can say it is an objective, scientifically-studied document, supported by data and legal summaries, which is now in the hands of the Prime Minister. We hope he will address it with the attention and care it deserves. Additionally, discussions were held on the mechanism for cooperation and coordination between the Prime Minister's office and the Maronite League concerning administrative appointments and public jobs in the state, based on the requirements of national consensus and the covenant principles while respecting competency in Lebanese administration. The atmosphere of the meeting was positive and characterized by a spirit of cooperation.
