Climate activists from the "Last Generation" movement announced that they entered four German airports on Thursday morning, leading to the suspension of operations at two of them: Cologne/Bonn and Nuremberg. The group stated in a press release, "Members of the Last Generation demonstrated on Thursday morning at four German airports: Berlin, Cologne/Bonn, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart. A total of eight people entered the runways at 5 a.m. (Central European Time) and glued themselves to the pavement."
At each of the four airports, activists wearing orange vests displayed banners with messages such as "Oil Kills," among others. However, they were unable to reach the departure and arrival platforms. Nonetheless, air traffic was suspended indefinitely at Cologne/Bonn and Nuremberg airports due to ongoing police operations, as reported by the operators of both airports. In Berlin and Stuttgart, police quickly removed the individuals who entered the runway, and flight operations were not affected, according to police and airport sources reported by the French press agency. The activists used this demonstration to call for signing a global agreement to phase out fossil fuels.
