Israeli Airstrike on School Sheltering Displaced Persons in Gaza

The Hamas media office in Gaza reported that at least 27 people were killed, and dozens were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced persons in Al-Nuseirat, central Gaza Strip, on Thursday. The Palestinian news agency reported the deaths and injuries of dozens of Palestinians, most of whom were women and children, due to the Israeli bombardment of the school. Local sources indicated that Israeli forces targeted the "Al-Sardi" school in the Al-Nuseirat camp, which houses thousands of displaced persons, resulting in at least 32 fatalities and dozens of injuries, including several serious cases that were transported to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the attack on the UN-run school and stated in a release that "fighter jets carried out a precise strike targeting a Hamas compound within a UNRWA school in the Al-Nuseirat area." The statement added that several militants were "eliminated" at the targeted site. It was noted that "Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists, who belong to elite forces and participated in the criminal attack on towns in southern Israel on October 7, were active in this compound." The statement concluded by saying that "the terrorists operated their terrorism from the school area, which they exploited and used as a hideout."
