A delegation from the "Future Movement," led by Secretary-General Ahmed Hariri and head of the Beirut Development Association Ahmed Hashmia, visited the Dar al-Fatwa today, Wednesday, on behalf of President Saad Hariri, to congratulate the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Drian, on the Islamic Sharia Council's consensus to renew his term to continue leading Dar al-Fatwa.
Ahmed Hariri stated after the meeting: "It was a heartfelt meeting where we conveyed President Saad Hariri's greetings to His Eminence and his wishes for success in the new term. We discussed the difficulties and challenges of the current phase. We told His Eminence, 'We are with you,' so that we can all stand with the people to navigate this difficult phase under the roof of the national, Arab, Islamic, humanitarian, and moral principles of Dar al-Fatwa, in everything that serves national unity, protects coexistence and civil peace, enhances the spirit of meeting, dialogue, and moderation, and preserves the 'Taif Agreement' and Lebanon's Arab identity."
Hariri expressed hope that "all parties would reflect on the rescue roadmap outlined by His Eminence in his message marking the new Hijri year and that there would be national will to save this country and its people, which deserves sacrifices." He thanked the members of the Islamic Sharia Council for having great responsibility and making decisions that serve the interests of "Dar al-Fatwa" during this phase.
He concluded: "We and Dar al-Fatwa are one. We and the Grand Mufti are one. This is a relationship of trust from the late President Rafik Hariri, which has always been and will remain a relationship of kinship, goodness, and love that seeks only the interests of the country and the welfare of Muslims in it."
Mufti Drian met with MP Waddah Sadek, who remarked after the meeting: "We discussed with His Eminence the recent media issue that primarily harms Lebanon and Beirut, which led to a disagreement between the Minister of Interior and the Director-General of the Internal Security Forces. We heard from His Eminence what occurred in his meeting with the two parties – which was, of course, very positive – and we wished for less harsh statements from some sheikhs to help calm the spirits, and for us to be positive while affirming our commitment to the functioning of institutions under the law."
The Mufti also welcomed a delegation that included MP Qassem Hashem, the Mufti of Hasbaya and Marjayoun Sheikh Hassan Dalh, leading a delegation of scholars and notable figures from Hasbaya, Marjayoun, and the Arqoub, who offered congratulations on the extension of his term and discussed public affairs and the country's conditions.
He also received a congratulatory delegation from the management of Al-Habtoor Hospital, which included Haitham Al-Samad, Rabi Al-Samad, and Salah Jabbar, who expressed their "high appreciation for the role His Eminence plays on various fronts" and wished him "continuous success in his religious and national journey."
